June 12: Lake Garda
We arrived at Desenzano but spent most of the day in Sirmione. Throughout the day, we had a beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. This vacation area felt like the Florida of Italy, with its wide boulevards and palm trees.
The lake was actually a vacation spot for Romans in Verona and later a defense location, so we took a look at some castles and ruins. We spent most of the day at Jamaica Beach. Quite different from my standard beach, since it was rocky rather than sandy and freshwater instead of salt water. Nonetheless, we had beautiful views of both the mountains and Grotte di Catulo (ruins of a Roman villa), the latter of which we admired from the water.
FORNERIA COZZI
- Grisini - pizza flavored bread twists!
- Taralli - typical biscuit of Southern Italy. This one had some spice (black pepper?) and almonds.
- Ciabelle - best "donut" ever! Like a crunchy croissant! Topped with pearl sugar
